When I try to start ioquake3 I get a message that I need to have quake 3 team arena installed. I do! I have tried reinstalling and it still does not work.
downloaded ioquake3
updated with zip file
copied pak0.pk3 file
I am not sure what I need to do to get the two to communicate

Did you copy both (quak3) \baseq3\pak0.pk3 and (quake 3 team arena) \missionpack\pak0.pk3? Do you have the point release pk3s (baseq3\pak[1-8].pk3, missionpack\pak[1-3].pk3)?
If the message box has a button to copy log to clipboard, click it and than paste it in a text editor. It will contain a list of where ioquake3 is looking for pk3s and what files it found.
