Ioquake3 hangs, audio loops at start of match

I’m trying to run ioquake3 on Debian Linux on a zotac ZBox with an NVidia GT218 graphics card. I’m able to run the movie at the start of the game, the menus all work just fine and I can even run around in the Demo (though the bot doesn’t show up for some reason).

But when I start up a skirmish or single-player game, the screen shows the initial view and the game immediately hangs and the audio loops. I think I found some people with similar problems, but these were several years ago and were reportedly fixed.

Anybody have any thoughts on what’s going on here and how to fix it?

All issues resolved.

Hanging cleared itself up after a reinstall of the engine.
