Got the quake 3 working on mac osx yosemite but some problems

Got everything to work but the sounds of the guns sound awful compared to the game i played back in 2001 and when the tier videos come on there is no sound coming from the videos i have to go to the cinematic click on them twice to hear the sound can anyone hell me out on this problem thanks
